Taking a look at a bill introduced January 3, 2025 by Rep. Andy Biggs (R, AZ).
The NOSHA Act, H.R. 86, stands for “Nullify Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration.”
If passed, “The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 is repealed. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is abolished.”
That is the full text of the bill – very succinct and straightforward.
Why is Rep. Biggs Introducing This Bill
According to an article on azcentral, Biggs says repealing OSHA “will return to the states the authority to regulate workplace health and safety.”
Why is OSHA Necessary
In my opinion, the trouble with returning this to state control is inconsistent workplace safety guidelines in each state. Workplace safety should be the same in all states since people often move and/or get transferred.
According to Google AI – which is a consolidated and comprehensive search on Google – OSHA “sets and enforces regulations to ensure safe and healthful working conditions for employees by providing a federal baseline for workplace safety, thus preventing injuries, illnesses, and fatalities by requiring employers to identify and address hazards in their workplaces through training, outreach, and education initiatives.”
Summary
NOSHA H.R. 86 is an effort to nullify and abolish OSHA, and return the responsibility of workplace safety to each state.
